Jul 20, 2008 - Al rite I took the video and it should be on my channel. I also put it as a response to this video
Watcher3223 Says:
Jul 20, 2008 - Go ahead.
Konnayaha Says:
Aug 24, 2008 - Awesome video mate thanks very much!
DavidofKonoha Says:
Sep 2, 2008 - Did everything is this video. My Ps2 plays ff7like a dream but with ff8,9 and all ps2 games it reads the disk but suddenly returns to the browser. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 2, 2008 - Did you ever tweak the white gear before doing the fix?
DavidofKonoha Says:
Sep 3, 2008 - No, trying the fix was the first time i had ever opened it.
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 4, 2008 - Were the innards particularly dusty before you tackled it? Plus, another thing you can try is to use compressed air and just blast air inside the pickup under the objective lens somehow for several seconds sustained or in bursts. It's not as effective as just cleaning the fixed lens in the way that's shown, but it's worth a try.
DavidofKonoha Says:
Sep 4, 2008 - I would say they were pretty dusty, and i will try to blow the dust off the fixed lense. I bought my ps2 refurbished so im guessing that may have something to do with it?
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 4, 2008 - Possibly. And, if there were copious amounts of dust, that may also suggest heavy usage which can indicate the possibility that the optical pickup may be worn out and could require replacement. Plus, forgot to ask: did you lubricate the mechanical parts that are shown in the tutorial? If you're in a pinch, you can use engine oil so long as it's fresh and you only use VERY little (a very small "dot" or two of oil) on the parts that are shown to need lube.
mackelite900 Says:
Sep 5, 2008 - does this fix DRE, i tried the lens calibration method but i go nothing. My PS2 cant read dual-layered, blue bottom and some Ps1 games despite the disc being in good condition
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 5, 2008 - What do you mean "lens calibration method?"
mackelite900 Says:
Sep 6, 2008 - well thats what it was called but it was basically re-adjusting the white spinning gear near the back of the disk tray and then try moving a few places and see if the lens would get better
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 6, 2008 - You'll have to try to set the gear back exactly where it was before. You are supposed to clean the lenses and lubricate the mechanical parts first before doing any kind of adjustment. In fact, adjustments aren't really supposed to be done at all as they are already correctly set at the place of manufacture. Redoing the adjustment should be done only if someone tried to do it in the first place.
doglegface Says:
Sep 7, 2008 - when i did this, this little metal strip came loose noe ps2 doesn't turn on how do i fix?
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 8, 2008 - My guess is that you have an older PS-2 (30001 or 39001) where the power and eject buttons are on the top case and connected to the system board via a ribbon cable. First, undo the two screws securing the controller ports. Then, carefully lift the innards of the machine slightly with your hand inside the expansion port. The end of the ribbon should go into what appears to be a white slot just underneath the front of the disc drive with the conductor-side facing up/plastic shim facing down.
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 8, 2008 - This white slot will be on the right side. Remember, metal conductor end facing up and blue or white plastic shim facing down.
Watcher3223 Says:
Sep 8, 2008 - Test and confirm. If working, go ahead and reseat the innards back into the bottom case, then set back and then screw down the controller port in its place.

Oct 12, 2008 - I am working on my friend's 50001 model and trying everything in the video (I did not know how to get to the lens beneath the lense) but I am still having no luck. I have takn the canned air to everything I can find and greased the rods, etc. Any other ideas? I just can't understand why I got my old one to work like magic after it has been abused, in a home with smokers, dust, cats, etc. and now I can't get one in decent shape to work...Thanks in advance for any help.
Watcher3223 Says:
Oct 12, 2008 - It could be the lens beneath the lens if dust has settled there. I'm guessing that you couldn't get underneath the objective lens because a different pickup than the one depicted is installed, so getting the lens shroud off is a bit different. But if it's not the lens, another factor could be the hours of use; it's possible that your friend's PS-2 may have had heavier use and, thus, greater wear, including the optical pickup. In that case, replacement of the pickup may be the only solution.

Dec 26, 2008 - the feelings mutual.. but in this vid i say how to clean the lens under the lens for this model.. gotta still try that out tommorrow... its weird when certain games work, and the ones that don't work on other ps2 consoles.. xD
FinalFantasyXXVI Says:
Dec 27, 2008 - how did you manage to get off the black cover surrounding the lens... inside the ps double ?
FinalFantasyXXVI Says:
Dec 27, 2008 - nvm.. i did it.. but - the ps2 plays dvds ... and some games... but not ones that work on other consoles... so the games aren't broken. weird enough, it will give me the dre crap after thoroughly cleaning it i have the same one as you do..
